SILVERRAIL POWERS WANDERU'S CONNECTION TO VIA RAIL CANADA

SilverRail, the transformational technology business dedicated to supporting train companies in attracting, interacting and transacting with their customers, has today announced a new partnership with Wanderu, enabling its customers to book trips to 340+ destinations throughout Canada with VIA Rail.

Wanderu is a ground travel meta-search website and mobile app that allows users to find and book the best deals on bus and train travel throughout North America. This partnership with SilverRail enables Wanderu to extend its service across Canada to now include rail bookings. From February 2016, Wanderu customers are able to book VIA Rail tickets by deep linking into Via Rail Canada’s website, made possible by integrating the SilverCore API. This means Wanderu customers can now enjoy travel across Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan.

VIA Rail train tickets are now available both online at www.wanderu.com and through Wanderu’s smartphone app for iOS and Android as part of their ongoing efforts to make travel booking more efficient and less stressful to their users.

On the company’s partnership with SilverRail, Polina Raygorodskaya, CEO and Co-Founder of Wanderu, said “VIA Rail travels daily to hundreds of destinations that no other carrier serves, and that allows us to provide Wanderu users with many new opportunities to explore North America. More importantly, people from as far as California and Mexico can now easily travel to all these places in Canada, using Wanderu thanks to our unique routing technology that automatically combines various bus and train travel options to build the most convenient and affordable travel itinerary in case there aren’t any direct trips available from point A to point B.”

Yves Desjardins-Siciliano, President & Chief Executive Officer at VIA Rail commented saying: “We are excited about our partnership with SilverRail and Wanderu.  There’s never been a better time for American travellers to discover Canada in the unique way that only train travel can offer. In addition, 2017 will mark the 150th anniversary of Canada as well as VIA Rail’s 40th anniversary. It’s a great time to get onboard.”

Cameron Jones, Chief Commercial Officer at SilverRail said: “This partnership highlights the importance of rail in end-to-end journeys. Trip planning is just not complete if travellers have not been presented with all of the available travel options. We’re thrilled that by connecting to our simple unified global rail API, Wanderu can now add VIA Rail, as well as having the option to add all of our other connecting rail content going forward, which includes: Germany, Spain, Sweden, US, UK, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg.”

SILVERRAIL LAUNCHES RAIL BENEFITS CALCULATOR

Developed to enable corporate buyers and travel managers to assess the impact of rail travel on productivity, bottom line and the environment, when compared with air travel.

SilverRail Technologies, the transformational technology business dedicated to giving travellers access to global rail content, has launched a Rail Benefits Calculator to help corporate buyers and travel managers to determine the impact on their business, employees and the environment of travelling by rail instead of air.

SilverRail’s calculator can be used in any market and on any route by corporate travel managers to identify and compare four clear KPIs:

  1. Monetary savings of rail versus air;
  2. CO2 savings of rail versus air;
  3. Productivity of employees when taking rail versus air; and
  4. Journey time of rail travel versus air travel

The calculator uses data specific to each individual corporation to deliver relevant results that present travel buyers with the key statistics and information needed to put together a business case for rail. These benefits are displayed on a user-friendly, interactive dashboard that allows corporate buyers and travel managers to control the current status of transport choices, altering the results to pinpoint the travel routes that present the highest benefits of travel via rail over air, or the benefits if the usage of rail is increased.

Ami Taylor, Global Travel Management & Account Development Director, SilverRail Technologies, said: “As climate change become more and more of a priority and with higher and more frequent tax implications, CO2 savings have become a key consideration for businesses – especially following the outcomes of the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in December. And, just a few small changes in our transport choices can make a big difference. Our Rail Benefits Calculator provides corporate buyers and travel managers with a clear KPI to present to any business leader on what the company can and has already saved by choosing rail over air.
“Teamed with an actual savings number, productivity metrics and actual journey times, the calculations present a ground-breaking tool for corporate travel buyers and travel managers, enabling them to assess rail on all levels. The calculator really is a great way to determine what a difference rail can make to companies and the world we live and breathe in.”

SILVERRAIL POWERS THE NEW ON TRACK RETAIL BOOKING ENGINE FOR GOVIA RAIL COMPANIES

SilverRail, the transformational technology business dedicated to supporting train companies in attracting, interacting and transacting with their customers, has today announced a new partnership with On Track Retail, a joint venture between Assertis and The Go-Ahead Group. SilverRail’s market-leading SilverSearch platform is now powering the new On Track Retail online rail booking engine across all three franchises operated by Govia (a joint venture between The Go-Ahead Group and Keolis), Govia Thameslink Railway (which includes Southern Railway, Thameslink, Great Northern and Gatwick Express), Southeastern and London Midland – enabling customers to plan rail journeys in real-time. Collectively, the Govia rail companies have more than 27% share of the UK rail market, with 6,000 daily train services and 12,600 employees.

This partnership marks a huge step forward in innovation in UK rail retailing, with train operating companies taking control of the complete end-to-end customer booking experience. For the first time a UK rail franchise operator will own their customer data, integrating direct customer feedback into their digital customer experience across all customer channels to help drive innovation.

The company launched their new ‘On Track’ platform, powered by SilverSearch, in October 2015, phasing it in across their channels and brands. Today, ‘On Track’ is powering online sales for all Govia’s rail franchises: Govia Thameslink Railway (GTR) that includes: Thameslink, Great Northern, Southern and Gatwick Express, Southeastern and London Midland.

On the company’s partnership with SilverRail, David Maitland, ‘On Track’ Retail MD, said: “SilverSearch has enabled us to rethink the customer experience, adopt next generation journey planning and pricing, and ultimately bringing the purchasing of rail tickets through web and mobile up to the standard of other retail sectors through a customer-friendly, intuitive interface. With the support of SilverRail, we are delighted to be able to offer our users a more comprehensive service than ever before.”

Cameron Jones, Chief Commercial Officer, SilverRail said: “This partnership highlights how SilverRail is helping to drive innovation into the UK rail market, where we are seeing a growing trend for UK transport groups seeking to improve their retailing and customer experience capabilities. Unlike any other travel vertical, rail in the UK has traditionally seen operators outsource the digital customer experience to third party companies, therefore losing control of the customer experience and slowing the rate of innovation. We are thrilled to enable them as they challenge the status quo, take back their customers, and accelerate their pace of innovation.”
