SilverRail Technologies, the transformational technology business dedicated to supporting train companies build digital infrastructure, has put together two teams to take on, and conquer, the three highest mountains in England, Wales and Scotland in just over 36 hours.

The two teams will include Sarah Disborough, Cameron Jones, David Pitt, Mark Hansford, Tobias Carlborg, Jess Flowers and Adam Flowers (you can see some of the team members in the photo opposite, taken from the previous SilverRail charity challenge – Tough Mudder), all of whom will be strapping on their climbing boots later this month to join an intrepid group of nearly 200 participants in order to raise money for the charity Railway Children, which helps children at risk on the streets.

Thanks to the rail industry’s continued support, Railway Children remains the only charity in the world to complete the Three Peaks Challenge by train. The famous endurance challenge will begin on Thursday 23 June and involves the group scaling Ben Nevis (1134m), Snowdon (1085m) and Scafell Pike (978m), estimated to be the equivalent of walking one-third of the way up Mount Everest.

Cameron Jones, Chief Commercial Officer of SilverRail said: “Our teams have put a lot of time and effort into getting fit to help us succeed in what could be one of the toughest physical and mental challenge any of us have ever had. The Railway Children is a fantastic cause that makes the challenge all the more worthwhile. Our families, friends and colleagues are backing us and we now hope our communities will help us reach our target goal of £7,000, with SilverRail offering to match our efforts as well.”

The SilverRail team’s sponsorship page is on Virgin Money Giving. The aim for each four-man team taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge by Rail is to raise a total of £3,500 to help fund outreach projects with street children in India, Africa and the UK. Now in its twelfth year, the challenge has raised over £2 million and each year has helped Railway Children reach 5,000 new children who are at risk, needing shelter, food, clothing, medical supplies, education and counselling.

Events Manager at Railway Children Katie Mason said she was delighted that SilverRail was taking on the challenge for the charity. “The spirit and atmosphere you get with so many fundraising adventurers all travelling together with the same goal on the train is incredible”, she said. “All the money raised from the Three Peaks by Rail challenge will help to ensure we can continue our work supporting some of the most vulnerable children in society.”

About Railway Children

Railway Children is a leading children’s charity fighting for vulnerable children who live alone at risk on the streets, where they suffer abuse and exploitation. In the UK, society often denies their existence, and in other countries the problem is so prevalent that it has become ‘normal’.
Children and young people run away or are forced to leave home where they suffer poverty, violence, abuse and neglect. They find themselves living on the streets because there is nowhere else to go and no one left to turn to. The problems they face on the streets are often even worse than those they endured at home. Every day we fight to change their story.
Railway Children race to reach children as soon as they arrive on the streets and intervene before an abuser can. Our pioneering work in the UK, India and East Africa enables us to get to street children before the streets get to them.
